The Sacred Garden / Shortes Story
March 17, 2016 | 3 Comments
As a new era of corporate New Mexico medical cannabis dispensaries begins, we want to take a little time to tell you about the Sacred Garden family and our unique business philosophy.
Zeke and Kelly Shortes, the owners of Sacred Garden, were awarded one of the state’s very first medical cannabis dispensary licenses in 2009 and opened their Santa Fe dispensary in 2010. Since then, they have worked tirelessly to help educate patients on the health benefits of cannabis and offer a wide selection of medicinal offerings crafted for specific ailments.
Unlike many NM dispensaries that are run by shadow management companies or multi-state corporations, Sacred Garden is a small, family run NM business that operates transparently without any confusing, layered business structures. Zeke, Kelly and their entire management team feel that NM patients deserve to know who produces their medicine and that it is important to build strong personal relationships with the people we serve on a daily basis.
For the record, the Shortes family has been in New Mexico since the late 1800s and has a rich entrepreneurial history in the state. The family has worked in well drilling, ranching, rural law, opened a motel and local restaurant in Lovington and Zeke’s great grandfather started one of New Mexico’s first trucking companies in 1915. In 2011, the Shortes family converted their operational Pie Town, NM ranch into a conservancy managed nature preserve to protect key regional wildlife migration corridors.
It is also important to note that both Zeke and Kelly are patients in the NM Medical Cannabis Program and they actively hire talented patients to ensure consistent and accurate healing services. As the dispensary and NM cannabis program has grown, so has the Sacred Garden staff. Recently, we’ve hired patients with more diverse customer service and professional management backgrounds to better ensure increased regulatory compliance and smoother day-to-day operations. We’ve also worked to enhance and expand our more complex product lines by hiring technically trained production personnel and have started sourcing new technologies from other legal medical cannabis markets.
In addition to Sacred Garden, Zeke and Kelly own and operate a small, independent healing and yoga center in Santa Fe and offer its services to dispensary patients at no cost.
If you are looking for a small, independent NM medical cannabis dispensary to support, then look no further. Sacred Garden is family owned, not powered by corporate money, not run by an out-of-state management company and is committed to helping as many NM patients as possible.
